Cable car to Choquequirao to begin construction in October

It is estimated that the construction and commissioning of the cable car to Choquequirao will generate more than 15,000 jobs, both direct and indirect, significantly boosting tourism in the Apurímac region.

The regional governor of Apurímac, Elías Segovia, announced that next October the concession will be awarded to the company in charge of the construction and operation of the cable car.

"This project is being developed in coordination with the central Government and Proinversión. We are in the final phase, and its execution will bring important economic growth. Together with mining and agriculture, tourism will consolidate Apurímac as one of the regions with the greatest development and best quality of life," he emphasized.

According to data from Proinversión, the cable car to Choquequirao will be granted under a concession with co-financing for a period of 22 years, which includes 2 years of construction and 20 years of operation. The estimated investment amounts to S/ 152 million (equivalent to approximately USD 54.3 million), not including VAT.

The cable car to Choquequirao will extend approximately 5.4 kilometers, divided into two sections: the first of 3,452 meters and the second of 1,991 meters. In terms of elevation difference, the first section will have a drop of -498.7 meters, while the second will reach 795.2 meters.

The complete journey between the departure station and the arrival station will take approximately 15 minutes, with a transport capacity of up to 400 people per hour.

The regional governor also indicated that his administration seeks to ensure that the region receives an annual mining canon close to 400 million soles. Adding this income to the more than 800 million soles that Apurímac receives from the central Government, the annual budget will exceed 1 billion soles, intended for the execution of various infrastructure works.

Among the priorities mentioned was the paving of approximately 1,400 kilometers of roads in the region, a project that will require an investment of more than 300 million soles.

Finally, he highlighted that joint work with municipalities and the central Government, in coordination with social programs, has reduced poverty in Apurímac by 12.7%, benefiting more than 30,000 families who now have better living conditions.
